Why doesn't Toyota sell this over here? This would be a perfect competitor for the Jetta TDi!

The Avensis isn't a Golf/Jetta competitor. It's larger. The Auris (read: Corolla) is the Golf/Jetta competitor.

Kinja'd!!!

But is it really 'what Toyota USA needs'? Would people actually buy these?

I thought the Scion tC was loosely based on the Avensis, but with 2 doors missing?

Freaking Auris. I've been waiting this car ever since they said they were going to kill off the Matrix.

That's only a minor fix. I'd go for one of these.

Such sleekness in the new peugeot, but I still disagree, the i40 might be in a bigger size-class, but price wise its stronger, well, where i'm from it is.

Exactly why people would buy it! It's a wagon, making it more cool than your typical crossover. And yes it is dull, but so's the camry! This could be easily sold in the states as a "Camry wagon". The reason why I said it'd compete with the Jetta TDi, is because of it's predominantly diesel engine choices

The Avensis is getting quite long in the tooth. This gen dates back to 2008 and is probably due for replacement soon. And as the others have pointed out already, it's the most boring in it's class. So boring that it doesn't even sell well.

I see your point, but wouldn't you americans just nearly buy any wagon? ;)

Yeah, we would. The reason why I think the Avensis would sell well here is because the Camry is one of the (probably the) best selling cars here. Some of those people might want more space, but still want the fuel efficiency of the Camry. This is where the "Camry wagon" would come in.

Yes, because it actually looks nice. Lot of potential Toyota buyers are jumping ship because of staid image and lack of style. Hell of a lot better looking than this.

In Europe, at least in my part of Europe, it killed off the Corolla. That nameplate has been dead here for years now.
